DTV transition ::
Every time I watch network TV there are ads reminding me that over-the-air TV broadcasting is going digital. This has been going on for months and months.
Finally last night it struck me: it’s in the interests of the over-the-air broadcast channels to have people receive over-the-air digital as opposed to cable or satellite, where there are more channels to compete for viewer eyeballs.
Having grown up in Ithaca, NY, where there was cable TV in 1968, and very little over-the-air reception, it was fun last week when I was preparing the guest room and discovered that the little TV stored away up there picks up a few channels quite well with just the rabbit ears. I am not going to buy a converter box for it.
