Someplace to sit ::

Shortly after I moved to Belmont two years ago, I bought a couch on Craigslist. The seller threw in this chair for free. I didn’t like it as much as the one I’ve been using since I moved to California 6 years ago, so it’s hardly been used.

A couple of weeks ago I put an old desk and the chair on Craigslist but got no calls about it. Last weekend Lori and I tried to give my old desk to her mother, but she decided she didn’t want it, so we junked it. We left the chair by the side of the street on Sunday night, but tonight it was still sitting there, so we put in the van with the idea of, well, just leaving it somewhere.

We went to Mervyn’s to do a little shopping. We were almost done when we passed an older woman complaining quietly, “I just want someplace to sit down!” Lori joked, “we have a chair out in my van if you want it!” Instead of laughing, the woman asked earnestly about the chair. Ten minutes later I pulled it out of the van and put it in the trunk of her Chevy. She wished us a Merry Christmas.
