Tonight I saw Dreamland in San Francisco.
Perhaps I am biased by having read the script a couple of years ago (there was a possibility, that didn’t materialize, of some of my music being used in the film). The script seems to have grown up just a bit since then, as Jason Matzner and Tom Willett described in their Q&A following the screening.
The script resonated uncannily. Calista has MS; my father had MS. Henry is an agorophobic; I’ve been there. There’s a theme involving the tension between love, freedom, and duty/responsibility; I’ve been there too, and found the film most illuminating on this.
But in any case, I loved not only the story and characters, but the photography is breathtaking, the music just-so (even though it’s not mine ;-), as is the casting/acting.
According to Jason, the film will only be in theaters briefly before Sony releases it on DVD later this month.
