I find “blogging” a pretty boring topic of conversation (and still avoid the word; I’ll still be calling this a “journal” when I’m 64). But I like anniversaries, so I’ll indulge in a little reflection.
Ten years today I posted my first “random thought.”. A couple months or so earlier I’d gotten my first local ISP account. Later I threw together a basic home page and began occasionally posting “random thoughts” as an attempt at having original “content.” In April 1998 I began trying to post an interesting music-related link every day. That seems to have lasted for about 7 weeks. In August 2002 I heard the word “weblog” (and the dreaded B-word) for the first time and recognized that that was what I’d been doing and that there was software to make it easier. I installed software, moved the old entries (changing them only to add titles and cross-references, and prune some dead links ) ... and here we are.
It’s always funny when someone tells me they’ve read this; maybe the best way to describe how I feel when they tell me is with a King Crimson tune:
I’m a dinosaur
Somebody’s been digging my bones

Doug,
“Dinosaur” is one of my favorite songs! I feel like one too, sometimes.
