I was IM’ing with V tonight, catching up. She said “I think this CD has changed you fundamentally.” I agreed: “I never felt so happy and at home as when i was in the studio.” After we signed off, I wrote my reply to Christoffer about the first mix. It included:
I miss being there! I was depressed for a week when I got home (well, maybe it was just jet lag and coming down from running on adrenaline for 3 weeks). My apartment lease is ending in September, so I’m starting to look at renting a cottage in the hills or mountains, to be able to have a real piano and play with drummers. I bought a pair of condenser mics and as an experiment, recorded myself playing a friend’s Yamaha grand. I fantasize about tube preamps, reel-to-reel tape recorders, and antique pump organs. I had to restrain an impulse to buy a Moog Voyager (supposedly very faithful Minimoog remake with digital patch storage and MIDI). My iPod surprised me by randomly choosing Awaken [from Yes’ Going For The One] on my first day back. I have listened to nothing but Genesis in the car for the past two weeks. You have thoroughly corrupted me! :-)
(Lest anyone think that this album is a prog-rock extravaganza ... no, not any more than it is a jazz record because I deeply adore Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew and In a Silent Way. Those records and Genesis do have their “ambient” moments, however ...)

I know exactly what you mean--my last experience of that “completely at home” feeling was on the set of CREDO.
Which was a one-day shoot.
Last November.
