Why do I never spill when pouring coffee into the cup over the sink, but always manage to spill when pouring over the counter? I must think about spilling on the counter.
Why, after finally getting around to washing the new car because there’s birdshit on it, does it get more birdshit on it that same afternoon? I wonder if I subconsciously know what trees the birds like and chose to park there because I was thinking of the birdshit having washed the car right before driving to work.
Sometimes Murphy’s Law works the other way: Wednesday I was able to find and fix a bug quickly (and several more just like it) because my coworker had recently fixed another bug—in completely different code—with the same underlying cause.
I was about to put a nickel in the candy machine when I suddenly decided to stop and look at it more carefully. I got out of the habit of scrutinizing the many coins that pass through my fingers long ago. The nickel turned out to be a 1953-S. Looks like a coin dealer would sell one for $1.50.
