iTunes meme ::

From Keith Snyder (his answers on his blog, mine here). Much of my iTunes library is actually on my iPod; I rip CD’s, copy them to the iPod, and delete them from the PowerBook hard drive to make room for recording my own music. So, I’ll answer separately for the libraries on the Mac and iPod.

How many total songs?

iPod: 695 songs, 2 days 20:33:38.

Mac: 604 songs, 2 days 14:08:25

(did you know you could click on that text so that “1.1 hours” turns into “67:42”?)

Sort by song title - first and last?

iPod: ...Til You Are Free, David Torn; Zen Archer, Todd Rundgren.

Mac: .59, dj TAKA (my son must have added this when he was here!); Zentrik, Oval.

Sort by time - first and last?

iPod: Human Body, Take 6, 0:14; Amy / A Daily Meditation, Sir Millard Mulch, 44:01.

Mac: several ancient loops iTunes found and imported when I first installed it in late 2001 (7-10 seconds); The 2004 Democratic National Convention, Day Two, 1:32:36 (I admit to never having listened to this).

Sort by Album - first and last?

iPod: 13 Songs About Love, Justin Winokur; some of my own tracks without even the usual “work in progress” album title—then “work in progress.”

Mac: 3 March 2003 (tracks from a jam on that date); tons of blanks, then You Are Here, Brainpool.

Top five played songs?

iPod: not really relevant; it is about 3 months old and has been played mostly in Shuffle mode.

Mac: ha, they’re all mine. #1 is a love song I recorded in 1981, featuring 5 stereo tracks bounced between cassettes, and the only recorded evidence of my ever having played a drum kit. I resurrected it from cassette in late 2003 and had it in heavy rotation for a few weeks as it seemed to be a virtual time machine and give me a window into Doug At 19. #2 was the first live band recording I ever mixed on a Mac, shortly after getting Logic; that was both a window to the past and a crash course in mixing real instruments.

Find “sex”, how many songs show up?

0 on both. I’m going to have to do something about this ;-)

Find “death”, how many songs show up?

2: The Death of Mara, David Torn, The Order soundtrack; Death of Rock And Roll, Todd Rundgren, Initiation.

Find “love”, how many songs show up?

31 on the iPod, 37 on the Mac. There’s probably some overlap. Both include all 13 of Justin Winokur’s 13 Songs About Love.
