Something Soft ::

The mailbox is under control again. I took a peek at what the new filters were catching. The bounced spam keeps pouring in. They are all promoting the same couple of fly-by-night warez sites under about 10 different domain names so far—they try to stay one step ahead of their name service and web servers being shut down (I took some pleasure in noting that the domains they registered on Friday were no longer resolving on Tuesday.) And they changed their purported company name from “ChepSoft LLC” to “${randomword}soft”, which produced these gems:

My name is Emile Garland, and I work at “irritantsoft”.

My name is Curt Hanson, and I work at “deletionsoft”. (Hey, a name for my filter!)

My name is Adeline Fields, and I work at “discordantsoft”.

My name is Jose Hammond, and I work at “anathemasoft”.

My name is Silvia Michel, and I work at “absorptivesoft”. (What are they selling, paper towels?)

My name is Kevin Reese, and I work at “greedysoft”. (I hope a company in the state of Washington sues them over that one.)

My name is Melva Frazier, and I work at “fictitioussoft”. (A moment of truth!)

And the winner: My name is Donn Woods, and I work at “encephalitissoft”.

In related news today, Mom forwarded me a mail from Dad to his siblings. She wondered about the strange headers mentioning sexual organs. Ah, her ISP had flagged the message as spam and added the headers. But why? It became clear. My aunt’s name is Penelope, Penny or Pen for short. Dad mentioned something of “Pen’s”. My uncle’s name is Dick. The email was discussing their upcoming visit. In response to a question about how long they’d stay, Dad had written “the longer the better!”
