I first heard and met the man behind weak in 1987; I thought, what a phenomenal, tasteful young keyboardist. In one of those funny kindred-spirits-gravitate-together kinds of things, I was both amazed and unsurprised when he turned up on one of my formative influence’s recordings a few years later. He spoke of wanting to play guitar and make something more resembling popular music than jazz, and I didn’t quite understand why such a great keyboardist and composer would want to follow that muse. Now with weak’s self-titled debut recording, I see why. Imagine Radiohead with more haunting and exquisitely tasteful electronic textures than jangly guitar, an even more naked and honest vocal approach... well, just go listen for yourself and buy the CD.
