Tim Robbins on journalism and public discourse ::

I took a respite from thinking and writing about, and allowing myself to be disturbed by, the ultimate Reality TV show ("Survivor: Iraq”) that’s been playing for the last month. But this changed my mind: Transcript of Tim Robbins Speech to the National Press Club:

Our ability to disagree, and our inherent right to question our leaders and criticize their actions define who we are. To allow those rights to be taken away out of fear, to punish people for their beliefs, to limit access in the news media to differing opinions is to acknowledge our democracy’s defeat.
