Tonight I saw a concert by Ali Akbar Khan, a master of the sarode (a traditional Indian instrument with 25 strings). I’d seen him with his two older sons, both sarode masters (and I think in India) with Zakhar Hussein on tabla, a few months ago in Cupertino. Tonight he played with his two younger sons. The ragas begin slowly, and induce a dreamlike state, and then gradually build to climaxes of intricate rhythmic interplay between the sarodes and the tablas. Enjoyed it very much.
