The malfunctioning camera ::

Saturday morning I had a strange dream. I was taking a series of pictures with my digital camera. After each shot I would look at it on the little LCD screen, and they were each screwed up in the same way. It was as if the shutter had opened several times instead of once, and also stayed open too long each time. ...

Ali Akbar Khan @ Villa Montalvo ::

Tonight I saw a concert by Ali Akbar Khan, a master of the sarode (a traditional Indian instrument with 25 strings). I’d seen him with his two older sons, both sarode masters (and I think in India) with Zakhar Hussein on tabla, a few months ago in Cupertino. Tonight he played with his two younger sons. The ragas begin slowly, and induce a dreamlike state, and then gradually build to climaxes of intricate rhythmic interplay between the sarodes and the tablas. Enjoyed it very much.


Night and Day, A.C.T. San Francisco ::

Last night I saw Tom Stoppard’s Night and Day. Multi-layered, thought-provoking and occasionally quite funny. Would like to read the script; the main plot line alone is engaging but I think I missed a few interesting details. ...
